We are aware there is an environmental cost to everything we do, from travel to building projects and all the finer details in-between. We want to do more to give back and so we have started working with Trees For All. Through them, one tree will be planted for every booking we make on our rental properties, and 50 trees will be planted for each property we sell. This will lead to around 1,000 trees being planted in SpecialUmbria’s name each year.

We love our jobs and consider it a privilege to work in property. We started our company in Umbria, which is known as Italy’s green heartland. We know that we have a responsibility for our environmental footprint to be minimal and so we try to tread lightly on both a big and small scale.

We employ local craftspeople who work with local materials. We source as much as we can as close to home as possible and our building projects sit comfortably in the landscape and are made to last for generations, with local wood and stone being the first two materials we reach for. Our gardens are designed with nature, while our properties are designed to be as energy efficient as possible and are managed by local staff who don’t travel far.

There are always improvements we can make and a natural choice for us is to help plant trees. Trees for All is a Dutch-based charity that has been operating for 25 years and has recently planted its 10 millionth tree. Originating in the Netherlands, where Rob and Jeroen, SpecialUmbria’s founders, are from, it plants and restores forests around the world and educates people about the importance of trees. In a nutshell, the work of Trees for All positively impacts climate biodiversity, leading to a healthier planet for everyone.
