Serene and simple in design, this elegant, pared-back apartment offers a chic urban retreat in an ancient town, close to the rocky coves and sandy beaches of the beguiling Salentine peninsula

Casa Alessio is a stunning renovation of the upper two floors of a town house in historically and culturally rich Nardó, close to the Ionian coast on the Salentine peninsula.

A thoughtful design has kept the old soul of the apartment and imbued it with a modern touch that maximises the light and offers a simple yet stylish sanctuary where guests are invited to enjoy a slower pace of life.

Comfortably sleeping four guests in two double bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, the star of the show is the elegant roof terrace with its dining and sitting areas either side of the internal kitchen.

Casa Alessio is perfectly placed for guests to enjoy the immediate convenience of its town location, and it would be easy to while away days on the roof terrace delighting in the region’s stunning food and wines. But given that the apartment is just a few kilometers from the beautiful Ionian coastline and not far from other pretty Baroque towns, it would be a shame not to explore a little further afield before returning to the simple chicness of this fabulous property.

Bedrooms

The apartment has two double bedrooms on the lower of the property’s two floors, located either side of the living room. The deliberately minimal look showcases the clean lines and muted colour palette while offering a calm and comfortable place to sleep.

Bathrooms

Each bedroom has its own bathroom – one with a bathtub and the other with a large shower occupying an original arched niche. Both are luxurious in their simplicity.

Kitchen

The fully equipped kitchen is on the upper floor that was, originally, just a roof terrace. Occupying the central space and framed by Critall-style windows and doors that open wide onto the beautifully appointed outdoor living and dining spaces on either side, the kitchen combines form with function. White, floor-length curtains frame the view and contrast with the incredible sunsets, while the beautiful stone floor continues from the kitchen to the terrace.

Living rooms

The apartment is entered through the spacious living room on the lower floor. Lit by a skylight that guarantees soft and natural light throughout the day, this calm space is simply decorated and offers an elegant and cool refuge for reading and relaxing.

Casa Alessio enjoys an urban location with bars, restaurants and cafes on the doorstep, while the Porto Selvaggio nature reserve and beautiful beaches are within easy reach. For a round of golf, Golf Club Acaya is 43km away or San Domenico, at Savelletri di Fasano, is 100km away. Closer to Nardó is the ASD Eden Ranch for riding, 14km away. However, enjoying the impressive sunsets from the roof terrace while feasting on the region’s excellent fresh produce and wine is one of the best leisure activities available.

The apartment is located just moments from the centre of Nardó, a town that lies between Lecce and Gallipoli, on the Salentine peninsula. The town itself has a rich history that can be explored through the byzantine and baroque architecture that includes palaces, chapels and churches. The Ionian coast is just a few kilometres away and the property, with all the convenience of its town location, is perfectly placed for exploring the crystal clear water and the mix of rocky coves and sandy beaches of this stunning coastline. Lecce, otherwise known as the Florence of the South, is 30km away. Cited as one of the most beautiful cities in southern Italy, it is heralded for its baroque splendour.

Air The nearest airports are: Brindisi[BDS] (80km) and Bari[BRI] (200km). Train The nearest train station to the property is in Nardó itself, although the main line stops at Lecce where car hire is available. Road Take the SS101 from Lecce or travel the SP359 coast road. The A14 is 13km away.
