La Mura

La Mura is a sleek, contemporary villa where natural materials such as wood, marble and stone, ensure it sits comfortably in its ancient setting

This stunning contemporary villa, designed in collaboration by two well-known architects, sits in harmony with its ancient setting, perfectly placed next to the pretty town of Ostuni and the breathtaking beaches of the Adriatic.

The property’s lateral design is beautifully sculptural. The pure-white exterior is (almost) windowless on the front, bisected by the dramatically simple line of steps to the roof. On the other side there are lots of windows and doors opening onto the terraces and leading to the pool.

Tradition mixes with modernity and strong architectural lines are softened by landscaping that includes trees and shrubs and an organic vegetable garden where guests are encouraged to help themselves. La Mura is as much about the outside as the inside and an abundance of natural and often local materials, such as wood, marble, stone, linen and leather, provide texture and further anchor the property to its surroundings.

Guests are accommodated in comfy en-suite bedrooms with stunning views. In this house, every holiday need and whim has been thought of, and with a kitchen, dining table and lounge area both inside and out, this is a property where guests are implored to switch off and unwind.

The coastal and cultural wonders of Puglia are on the doorstep but, mostly, guests will find all that they want and need is here at this sensational villa.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

The three double en-suite bedrooms all look out over the garden and the olive grove with a glimpse of the sea in the distance. Simply but comfortably furnished, there are built-in shelves and hanging spaces, and the soft, natural colours allow the view outside to be the focus.

Bathrooms

The en-suite bathrooms have high-spec fixtures and fittings, with brushed brass taps and sculptural basins. Each one has an outdoor as well as indoor shower. There is a guest bathroom, too.

Kitchen

The kitchen, which is at the end of the open-plan living area, is a study in clean lines and contrasting shades and textures. An end wall of dark-wood, floor-to-ceiling cupboards, are perfectly paired with a smooth pale counter made of local marble. The result is an expertly equipped kitchen that disguises itself, hiding away clutter and letting the beautiful materials take centre stage. An indoor wooden dining table is positioned between the kitchen and living area, while large glass doors from the kitchen lead to the outdoor dining area: a marble table shaded by a pergola with views over the pool. The outdoor kitchen and BBQ are next to a vegetable garden where guests are encouraged to help themselves to the homegrown organic produce.

Living rooms

The spacious open-plan living room is a comfortable place to relax. This is a house where the outside plays as big a role as the inside and, as such, there is also a large, built-in corner sofa on the terrace, sometimes shaded by the lee of the building, close to the outside dining table and making the most of the sensational views to the coast.

Outside

La Mura is in a private, fenced setting with ample parking. Surrounded by ancient olive trees, the garden has been as carefully designed as the villa itself. The smooth white walls of the house provide a wonderful contrast to the natural stone walls of the garden and, likewise, the permanence of the olive trees with the seasonality of the vegetable garden. Illuminated pathways lead through terraces of Mediterranean planting, cactuses and grasses. The infinity pool has sunloungers that look towards the sea, there is a corner sofa lounge area just outside the kitchen doors and next to that is a smooth marble dining table under a veranda. There is also an outdoor kitchen with a BBQ and a shower by the pool.
