Lamario

Lamario is a gentle property where natural materials such as stone, wood, linen and ceramics perfectly showcase its vernacular architecture, inviting guests to relax while offering the perfect base from which to explore this alluring spot in Italy’s heel.

Lamario is an elegant property that is perfectly placed to capture the best of everything this part of Puglia has to offer. Set in a hectare of garden and grounds, it is surrounded by olive and citrus groves not far from the attractive Adriatic coastline.

A clever build and restoration project has resulted in a new lamia that houses the main living space and two en-suite bedrooms. The third bedroom occupies the original lamia and the original trullo makes an impressive shower room.

Using a simple white palette, the design looks to the natural world for decoration including stone, wood, linen and beautiful bright green ceramics made locally.

This is a property that encourages guests to make use of the fabulous outside space. A well-equipped outdoor kitchen sits next to a large dining table under a pergola, which also offers shade to the outdoor living room. Guests can find plenty of spots to sit and socialise, take a siesta in the shade, or catch up on their book pile. A perfectly placed pool completes the picture.

While there is more than enough to occupy guests at Lamario, it would be remiss not to venture out of the gates to discover the baroque towns, white villages and stunning beaches that dot this landscape.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

There are three double en-suite bedrooms with queen-size beds – one off either side of the living space in the new lamia, and the third occupies the old lamia with the accompanying Saracen trullo housing an en-suite. All the bedrooms have air conditioning, heating, black-out blinds, mosquito nets and a TV. There is a sofa-bed in the living area for occasional guests.

Bouganville: A vaulted bedroom that leads off the kitchen and living room, the simple white walls are decorated with rustic touches in natural materials and the bedside tables are circular chunks of hornbeam. The en-suite has a large shower and is similarly decorated in simple white.

Gelsomino: This room is similar to Bouganville with its vaulted ceiling and simple white aesthetic. A small wardrobe on either side frames the bed while the artwork reflects the green outside.

Suite degli Ulivi: Built in the old lamia the main bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and a small private patio outside. The impressive and atmospheric en-suite in the old trullo has a double shower set in one of the vaulted archways.

Bathrooms

The two en-suites in the newly built lamia are simply decorated in white with spacious, high-quality showers. The third one is located in the original trullo and has a double shower in one of the alcoves. There is an outdoor shower by the pool.

Kitchen

The relatively small indoor kitchen is in the open-plan living space of the new lamia. It’s perfect for cooking something quick and easy, however, the real culinary magic happens outside where there is a bigger, expertly equipped preparation, cooking, dining and seating terrace shaded from the sun by a 50sqm pergola. There is an induction hob, fridge, dishwasher, ice machine and Weber BBQ and table seating for 12 – all enabling guests to sit and savour the incredible local produce.

Living rooms

The indoor living and dining space has a dining table that seats eight, a sofa bed, two chairs and a 43”TV. Outside there are several seating areas in both the sun and shade.

Outside

Set in a hectare of garden and grounds that are dotted with olive, orange and lemon trees, jasmine, rosemary and prickly pear cactus plants, Lamario is a celebration of the outdoors. Built around the existing trees and in harmony with the environment, the property is set up for outdoor living, whether that be snoozing, swimming, cooking or dining. The 40sqm pool (1.50m deep) sparkles blue against the light stone of its surround and of the new lamia that is built in the same local stone. There are loungers around the pool, a fabulous outdoor kitchen, dining and seating area under shade, as well as a couple of gazebos on the lawn. The property is fully fenced and has electric gates, plenty of parking space and an alarm system both inside and out.
