Le Stipe

A contemporary villa for six, it’s the perfect retreat among the olive trees of this ancient landscape

Le Stipe is a large, white modern villa halfway between Ostuni and Cisterno, in this particularly pretty, olive tree-strewn part of Puglia. While there are numerous contemporary properties in the Itria Valley, few are finished as well as this one.

Sustainably built, the house uses solar energy, with AC and heating in every room, making it a fabulous place to be year-round.

There are three double bedrooms: two on the ground floor while the third is on the lower ground floor and has its own entrance. Sleep is a large part of a stay here, if only for the number of super-comfy sun loungers and sofas that are strategically placed both inside and out.

A big, solid wooden table on the veranda is the ideal dining spot with views across the pool from one side or through the house to the olive groves beyond from the other.

The salt-water infinity pool is picture-perfect, and you could happily spend your days eating, sleeping and swimming on repeat. However, with a stunning coastline and delightful towns and villages on the doorstep, you will be persuaded to leave. On your return, climb the zig zag stairs to the roof and enjoy the starlit skies.

Bedrooms

The three bedrooms are designed for comfort and privacy using natural colours and materials. Two are located on the ground floor, both with double beds, wide wardrobes and stunning views of the pool and olive groves beyond. One of these is en-suite. The third bedroom is a suite on the lower-ground floor with independent access.

Bathrooms

Two of the bedrooms are en-suite, there’s a separate family bathroom as well as a loo on the veranda. Following the same design principle as the rest of the villa, the bathrooms have a simple, muted look with high-quality fixtures and fittings.

Kitchen

The beautifully designed and well-equipped kitchen is at one end of the open-plan living space. Custom made wooden units include a marble-topped peninsula with seating on one side, perfect for breakfast or for sitting chatting to whoever is cooking.

Living rooms

The large living space is open-plan with the kitchen and gloriously light thanks to vast picture windows on one side and big doors to the terrace on the other, enabling an uninterrupted view through the property. Natural materials such as stone and wood keep things simple and tactile, and a spacious built-in corner sofa is the perfect place to curl up with a book or for a chat out of the heat of the sun. There are plenty of outside places to relax, too – flop onto a giant beanbag sunbed or bag a cushioned wooden one.

Outside

Le Stipe sits among the olive groves and dry-stone walls of this pretty part of Puglia with fabulous views from the veranda, pool and roof terrace. The grounds to the property are spacious and guests are guaranteed full privacy. A 16m saltwater infinity pool sits in front of the house and is surrounded by loungers and cushions. The large veranda provides shade for the chunky wooden dining table as well as a covered seating area and glass doors and huge picture windows offer views right through the house to the olive trees behind. There is a projector that can be used outside and a fire pit that can be used as a BBQ. Head up the external stairs to the roof for the best views.

Activities

You can’t come to Puglia without heading to the coast. Just 20 minutes’ drive from the house you’ll find the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve and the breathtaking beaches of the Adriatic. Le Stipe is also close to lots of interesting towns and villages with a wide choice of restaurants, bars, shops, antiques markets and stunning Baroque architecture. There are vineyards and olive groves where tastings and tours are possible and for a round of golf, the nearest course is San Domenico, at Savelletri di Fasano, 35km away.

Le Stipe is just ten minutes by car from Ostuni, Cisternino and Ceglie Messapica, some of the most well-known of the magical white towns of the Itria Valley. Discover the restaurants, maze of small streets and market stalls in these towns as well as in Martina Franca and Carovigno, or head to the trulli villages of Alberobello and Locorotondo. The property is just twenty minutes from the crystal-clear water and rocky coves of the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve on the Adriatic coast. To the north is Polignano a Mare (54km), a town built on limestone cliffs where its famous viewpoint, the Balconata sul Mare, offers incredible sea views and is home to occasional high-octane cliff-diving competitions. Discover coastal Monopoli (47km) with its Baroque castle and cathedral, or head down the coast to Lecce (79km), otherwise known as the Florence of the south, which is cited as one of the most beautiful cities in the south of Italy and heralded for its Baroque splendour.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.
