Licce
A fabulously restored 16th century townhouse that’s a short stroll from the cafes and restaurants of Muro Leccese, an authentic Salento town
This wonderful 16th century townhouse is one of three sister properties located on a delightful piazza in the centro storicoof Muro Leccese, a small town in the south of Puglia not far from Otranto and the soft sand beaches of the Adriatic.
An unassuming entrance leads through a paved courtyard to the two-storey house that draws the eye with its arches, balconies and roof terraces, dotted with pots of cheerful geraniums. There’s a large garden beyond, planted with pomegranate, citrus and walnut trees, palms and trailing wisteria. A 15-metre pool runs the length of a terrace built of old stone pavers and low walls thick with rosemary, and guests can dine at a long table on another shaded terrace.
The house sleeps up to 11 guests in five bedrooms and there are five bathrooms. All the rooms in the house are large and have been sensitively restored, retaining the original features, and decorated with a light touch. The owners are art collectors and carefully selected pieces are on display, while the furniture is a curation of the best of Italy alongside some locally made pieces.
Licce is perfect for a group of friends or family. For bigger groups, the house can be rented together with neighbouring Murole, which has a 20-metre pool - garden access can be opened up between the two. Together they can accommodate up to 30 guests and make a wonderful location for a small wedding or celebration.
