Masseria Salentino

The silence and space that surround Masseria Salentino are as beguiling as the relaxed yet refined atmosphere within its ancient walls.

Masseria Salentino sits in rural splendour in the unspoilt landscape of Italy’s heel. Located between Lecce and Manduria, and close to the sandy beaches of the Ionian coast, this luxurious country estate is a special place.

The property is built around a vast courtyard with a stunning pool, a large shaded dining table and plenty of comfortable spots for reading and relaxing. Accommodation is spread between two buildings: the main farmhouse and the old stables, each with three en-suite bedrooms, a separate kitchen and living room, making this the ideal property for two families or groups of friends.

Large arched windows, vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and wooden beams have been carefully restored and the amazing light in the property is celebrated by the simplicity of the modern furniture, designer pieces and locally crafted accessories. The incredible views from the huge windows are artworks in themselves. There is a Moorish influence to the architecture and the layout of the property, encouraging guests to enjoy dining and chatting together, as well as finding space to just simply be.

Guests can help themselves to the vegetables from the organic kitchen garden and wander the eight hectares of private land with its fruit and nut trees. Salice Salentino is a ten-minute drive away and has a good selection of shops and restaurants, while the baroque splendour of Lecce or the warm beauty of the Ionian Sea are within easy reach.

Masseria Salentino is an old property with a rich history. Time here is about slowing down and reconnecting: to others, to a simpler way of life, and to nature, not least through celebrating the delicious local food and wine.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

The six en-suite bedrooms are split evenly between the main farmhouse and the old stables. All of them are spacious and bright with deeply comfortable king-size beds made up with beautiful, cool linens. Each room has Wifi, an audio system, air conditioning and under-floor heating as standard.

In the main house there are two large doubles on the first floor, each with a private terrace, while the ground-floor suite has a sitting room with a fireplace and a sofa bed.

The three suites in the old stables have been beautifully restored to make the most of the original barrel vaults and stone arches. They open directly onto the internal courtyard so might be less suitable for families with small children.

Bathrooms

There are five en-suite shower rooms and one en-suite bathroom, all of which are simply styled with high-performance fixtures and fittings and accessorised by characterful local touches, such as a stone basin or handcrafted wicker mirror. In the main house, one of the first-floor toilets is separate to main room.

Kitchen

The masseria has two kitchens that, like the rest of the interior, are simple in design and yet offer everything you require. The one in the main house is fully equipped with an oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker while the one in the old stables is similarly equipped but larger and has an island.

Living rooms

Masseria Salentino has space in abundance. The soaring vaulted ceilings and smooth stone floors offer calm retreat from the summer heat, while under-floor heating makes the same spaces warm and inviting in winter and the huge arched windows anchor guests in this restful landscape throughout the year. The impressive architecture is emphasised by the modern furniture and retro touches, allowing the house to be calm and quiet but also welcoming. In the main house, the ground floor has a spacious entrance hall. The dining room has a beautiful arched stone ceiling softened by woven pendants over a long table that comfortably seats 14, with a door to the side that leads to the courtyard. At the far end of the room is a sitting area with a fireplace, two sofas and a large built-in seating area that borrows from North African style, while the star of the show is the view from the huge arched window. The ground-floor suite has its own living room with a fireplace. On the first floor there is a further living space with a sofa and two armchairs, while the bedroom suites in the old stables have individual living rooms.
