Palazzo Edmondo

This graceful townhouse, with its delightful garden and pool, mixes timeless beauty with modern comfort

Palazzo Edmondo is a beautifully restored, 16th century townhouse for six to eight guests in the heart of Salento.

The house itself is spacious, elegant and comfortable. Outside the warm stone glows in the soft Salento light while, inside, the colours reflect the Salentine landscape with deep reds, olive greens, sea blues and relaxing creams. It’s a celebration of natural materials – beautiful stone and wood as well as cocciopesto floors - and tactile fabrics. The soaring star-vaulted ceilings that reach 5m provide the perfect backdrop to the glorious edit of brand-name furniture pieces and vintage finds.

The space inside is spread out across a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room with a fireplace, a sitting room and a study. There are three bedroom suites, each with a private terrace or courtyard.

Outside, there is a lush walled garden with a long, colonnaded pool, fruit trees and palm trees, and a dining table under a pergola. Even better, the house is just a few steps from the town’s main piazza and guests can stroll to the restaurants, bars, shops and nearby food market.

The baroque town of Lecce is just five minutes away by car and there are lots of fabulous beaches within half an hour, including Porto Cesareo and Porto Selvaggio. This is a house that enables guests to enjoy all the best bits of this wild and beautiful part of Puglia.

Surroundings

Palazzo Edmondo is just five minutes’ drive from Lecce, otherwise known as Florence of the south. Cited as one of the most beautiful cities in southern Italy and heralded for its baroque splendour, wander the pretty streets and admire the incredible light as the sun bounces off the white stone. There are several smaller towns nearby that are also worth your time, including Nardò, whose rich history is best explored through food and architecture - in this case, fabulous fresh seafood and delicious pasticcerie, and a mix of Byzantine and Baroque palaces, chapels and churches. The Ionian coast is just a few kilometres away and its stunning mix of clear water, rocky coves and sandy beaches is not to be missed. The Porto Selvaggio nature reserve’s pine forest-fringed wild beaches, in particular, are dreamy. Discover Santa Caterina with its seafront restaurants and Santa Maria al Bagno for its beautiful cove. Or, discover the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve on the Adriatic coast. If you fly from Bari, stop off at Polignano a Mare, a town built on limestone cliffs where its famous viewpoint, the Balconata sul Mare, offers incredible sea views and is home to occasional high-octane cliff-diving competitions.

  • For air conditioning systems: to guarantee the air re-circulation function is switched off and, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with the plant in off-mode, to clean the air filters of the heating/cooling plants that use heat pumps, fan coils and convectors, at the end of each stay
