Villa Verella

A contemporary villa, built around a centenarian oak tree, that combines high-end design with a simple, rustic feel

Villa Verella is a newly built villa where the traditional elements of Puglian architecture have been brought bang up to date resulting in a house that is gentle and calm, where guests are able to switch off and relax.

The pretty towns of Ostuni, Cisternino and Ceglie Messapica form a triangle in this beautiful part of the Itria Valley and Villa Verella sits in the middle, just ten minutes’ drive from each.

Single-storey with traditional external steps that lead to the roof terrace, the house sleeps six in three double bedrooms with bathrooms, that sit around a central living space of a kitchen and lounge area. Of course, much of the experience of cooking, eating and sleeping in this part of Italy take place outdoors and here the outdoor ‘rooms’ are as exquisitely designed as those indoors.

The villa is painted a soft white that catches the light perfectly without dazzling guests. This is matched by a palette of natural materials and tonal colours that reflect the surrounding landscape. Low-key luxury shows up in the expert design of every element and guests will be seduced by the comfort of it all. It’s a property that sits perfectly in its environment.

Location-wise it could not be better placed for discovering the pretty towns, countryside and coastline of this delightful part of Puglia.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

The three bedrooms are all decorated in natural colours and materials, reflecting the surrounding countryside. Simple in looks but luxurious in feel, two of them have access to private terraces.

Bathrooms

The three bathrooms follow the same design principle as the rest of the villa – a simple, muted look with high-quality fixtures and fittings.

Kitchen

At one end of the living space and looking out on the pool area, the kitchen is beautifully designed and expertly equipped. Guests will no doubt spend as much time using the outdoor kitchen as the indoor one and there’s plenty of space if a private chef is more your style.

Living rooms

The lounge area inside is opposite the kitchen in the main living space. The soft white walls and built-in sofas are decorated sparingly with carefully chosen pieces in natural materials. The shape of the barrel ceiling is copied in the end doors that lead to the outside lounge area where an ancient oak offers shade. Light and bright, there are doors to the outside kitchen and the pool area, too.

Outside

Villa Verella sits on the brow of a hill in 1.5 hectares of private land. Surrounded by almond trees, olive trees and ancient oaks, it is enclosed by stone walls while entrance to the property is by electric gates. Indoor-outdoor living is elemental to the property’s design and so guests can cook, eat and sleep in comfort and style, whether inside or out. The living room and principal bedroom have doors that open directly to the outdoor area, where a pergola offers shade to the outdoor kitchen and BBQ, the dining table, and a beautiful and roomy built-in sitting corner. At the other end of the pool 9 x 5 mt, is a sunbathing spot with sunloungers and deck chairs. The pool itself runs parallel to the house and its smooth surround is perfect for bare feet. There are private terraces off two of the three bedrooms and another outdoor lounge area off the sitting room, while traditional external steps on the pool-side façade of the villa lead to the roof terrace. There is a projector that can be used outside.

Notes

There is a really nice coffee bar with local products and bakery where to grab your morning breakfast and the sandwiches for the beach days, just 2 min on your way out from the Villa where the Q8 gas station is! Please note that the stairs to the roof terrace are open on one side and therefore not suitable for small children.
