This single-storey sophisticated beach villa with pool accommodates guests in the lap of luxury

La Caletta is a magnificent modern seafront villa that sits on the clifftop between the sandy curve of beach at Fontane Bianche to the north, and the lido at Noto to the south. Recently built, the property has a luxurious beach club feel and is perfectly placed for discovering the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto and the wild beaches of the Vendicari nature reserve. For those who can't look at the sea without needing to jump straight in, head to the end of the garden and 150m away are steps carved into the rock that lead down to a small cove.

Sleeping ten in five spacious, independent en-suite rooms, the house has been cleverly designed with a large central living space with sea views. The villa’s simple and sophisticated design, with an interior that hints of North Africa, includes lots of natural colours and materials. With room for everyone to dine together, both in and out, this is a property made for rest and relaxation.

Guests might be tempted not to leave La Caletta for their entire stay but that would mean missing out of the history and beauty that is around every corner in this part of Sicily, not to mention the region’s wonderful food scene. It’s the very definition of a holiday house by the sea.

Bedrooms

The five en-suite bedrooms are independently sited and each room is accessed from a path outside that leads from the entrance of the property to the living room. Large and comfortable beds have carved wooden headboards, and the polished concrete floors and ceilings are a beautiful warm stone colour, while North African influences are apparent in the artwork and furniture. Each room has its own private patio.

Bathrooms

The en-suite shower rooms have zellige tiles in earthy colours, high-quality fixtures and fittings and double basins.

Kitchen

The vast living space features the kitchen, dining table and living room. The American-style kitchen has a wall-mounted oven and an island with a ceramic hob and sink. There’s plenty of prep space as well as high-end gadgets, including a coffee machine. The inside dining table sits in front of floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that lead to the terrace and the shaded outside dining table. The layout means you can keep one eye on the sea while you are making your breakfast.

Living rooms

The living room takes up the central part of this big, cleverly zoned space. Wooden sofas with cream linen cushions are low to the ground and perfect for watching telly, snoozing or chatting on. The natural colours and materials match the surrounding landscape and smooth concrete floors are lovely to walk on in bare feet. There’s more than enough room for everyone and yet it still feels cosy.

Outside

The building seen from above is a little like a game of Tetris – interlocking shapes that are linked by an external path that leads from the gate to the living room. From the front of the house there are huge glass doors that slide open to the terrace where there is a shaded dining table and lounge area. From here, a path meanders to another veranda before reaching the 11m x 4m pool with views over the sea. There is a gate at the end of the garden that leads to the cliff path and, although you can’t swim in front of the house, there are steps down to a rocky beach just a little further along. The nearest sandy beach is just 3km away. While this is a single-storey building, there are steps up to the roof for magnificent ocean views, especially at sunrise.

Activities

The breathtaking beaches of Sicily’s south-eastern corner are a delight. Guests can walk down to a rocky beach not far from the house or stop off at Contrada Gallina, the nearest sandy beach. Otherwise, choose from the lidos in Noto and Fontane Bianche or, travel a little further and you’ll find the beaches inside the Vendicari Nature Reserve that are wilder and completely unspoilt. They include Eloro, Pizzuta, Calamosche, San Lorenzo and, if you’d rather throw caution to the wind, as well as your clothes, Marianelli. For a round of golf, the 18-hole I Monasteri course is just 20 minutes away.

Guests will be charmed by the beautiful late baroque towns of the Val di Noto, particularly Noto itself, with its baroque architecture and its fabulous array of restaurants that offer everything from pizzas to fine dining, using beautiful, slow-grown local ingredients. Syracusa is of similar archaeological interest and is matched in its baroque splendour by both Ragusa and Modica, while the island of Ortigia is a gem of pretty, medieval streets, heaving with history.

Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.
