Pietre
The clean, bold lines of this modern villa are matched by privileged views across an ancient landscape
Pietre is a stunning contemporary villa for eight with breathtaking views over the olive groves to the sea. Clean bold lines, sliding glass doors and an interplay of shapes and shadows give architectural interest, while the privacy of the setting and its proximity to lovely Noto add extra appeal.
The architectural drama does not come at the expense of comfort. Guests are accommodated in four double en-suite rooms that each have sliding doors to a terrace. The villa’s kitchen and living space form the heart of the house and from here guests can step out onto the pool terrace and stare at the extraordinary view.
Pietre is an easy property to love. Influenced by mid-century American villas – seen in the covered dining area that perfectly frames the view both sides – as well as by the island’s own architectural heritage - with the external stairs to the roof - the sense of both space and intimacy are delightful. Even the infinity pool is a perfect shade of blue and, if you can resist jumping straight in, you will see it serves as a mirror to the villa.
If you can drag yourselves away, the baroque towns of the Val di Noto, such as Noto itself, Ragusa and Modica, and the unspoilt beaches within the Vendicari Nature Reserve are worth your time before you hightail it back to Pietre for sundowners on the roof.
