Villa Marina

This delightful villa, with its big pool and beautiful garden, provides the perfect base from which to explore Sicily’s south-eastern corner

NB - Pictures are not professionally done and will be redond in Spring 2026 -

Villa Marina is a large family villa not far from Scicli and the coast. Cooled by the breeze of its dramatic hilltop setting, the house offers incredible views of the sea to the south and into the rugged Irminio valley in the opposite direction.

Set on a 50-hectare private estate in the island’s south-eastern corner, the modernist villa is surrounded by olive and almond groves, a fruit orchard and a vegetable patch. The carefully landscaped garden cascades down a series of dry-stone wall terraces to the large pool.

The design has been as carefully balanced inside as out, and the six en-suite doubles are individually decorated with original art, lighting and furniture, both modern and antique, much of it championing local makers. Smooth floors, a well-equipped kitchen and a vast living room all have doors to outside that can be kept open to create a breeze, even in the heat of summer.

Perfectly placed for exploring the baroque towns and glorious beaches nearby, all the best bits of the Mediterranean’s largest island can be condensed into one with a stay in this exceptional villa.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

The property sleeps 12 across six en-suite doubles.
Each room, although similar, is individually decorated using natural materials such as linen, wood, and wicker. Large windows and doors offer a breeze as well as views and while there is air conditioning, you probably won’t need it.

Bathrooms

There are six en-suite shower rooms, as well as an outdoor shower, and a guest loo. Smooth tadelakt shower walls, plus reclaimed wooden vanity units marry form with function.

Kitchen

The ground-floor kitchen is beyond the sitting room. Light and airy, there is a large island with open shelving and a gas hob, while the sink is in front of the window. Doors lead to the outside dining terrace and there is also a large dining table inside.

Living rooms

The salotto is a large room with doors on either side to catch both the breeze and the views. Smooth concrete floors and white walls are softened by the mix of colourful artworks, a dramatic central pendant light and a mix of modern and vintage furniture. The house is a master class in the layering of different textures, and the smooth concrete floor is lovely underfoot.

Outside

Villa Marina is part of a private 50-hectare estate that includes olive and almond groves, a fruit orchard and vegetable garden. The house itself is on top of a hill and therefore has amazing panoramic views including of the sea and the Irminio valley. The garden is exquisite and cascades down a series of dry-stone walls to the 17m pool where guests can look out to sea. Landscaping has been dictated as much by climate as by colour and fragrance and includes gravel paths with herbs and grasses, Mediterranean flowers and cactuses. Mature fig and olive trees offer shade and create little outdoor ‘rooms’ so you can choose a different aperitivi spot each evening. A shaded dining terrace is accessed from the kitchen and guests are free to wander the estate and pick the fruit and veg.

Leisure & Activities

Activities

The breathtaking beaches of Sicily’s south-eastern corner are a delight and guests have plenty to choose from. Try the Lido di Noto, Punta Secca, Caucana, Playa Grande, Donnalucata and Costa di Carro. Or for beaches that are wilder and completely unspoilt, head to those of the Vendicari Nature Reserve. They include Randello, Eloro, Pizzuta, Calamosche, San Lorenzo and, if you’d rather throw caution to the wind, as well as your clothes, Marianelli. For a round of golf, the 18-hole I Monasteri course is just over an hour away.
If archaeology is more your thing, you’re in for a treat. This corner of Italy is often thought to be more Greek than Greece itself: head to the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento with its beautiful Greek temples. For Roman mosaics, the Villa del Casale in Piazza Armerina is the place, and Donnafugata Castle, the Kamarina archeological site, Cava d’Ispica, Portopalo and Scala dei Turchi are all worth your while. Alternatively, you can climb Mount Etna.
