La Torre

From its stunning vantage point, La Torre is an exceptional property that offers sensitive modern design and comfort within its grand, ancient walls.

La Torre is an impressive medieval square tower. Built at the end of the 12th century and added to in the 14th century, it is one of a number of such fortifications surrounding Todi. Today, it is a five-storey property that maintains its original architectural features while cosseting guests in its comfortable, light-filled interior.

There are six double bedrooms and seven bathrooms, spread over three floors, with three separate kitchens, five living rooms, three dining rooms and a lift between levels that can carry you up all 24m to the roof terrace. Here, the panoramic view stretches over the quintessential cypresses and olive groves of the rolling Umbrian hills.

The property has terracotta and white travertine floors, exposed beams, gentle archways and sandstone fireplaces, as well as modern, high-spec kitchens, and furniture that cleverly matches family heirlooms with design pieces.

Outside, the garden has been replanted according to 19th-century records with an emphasis on old rose varieties. The beautiful pool has a decked surround and you can swim with a backdrop of lavender bushes and olive trees.

La Torre lies within easy reach of some of the most culturally rich towns in Umbria and just a ten-minute walk uphill to the nearest bakery. With its thoughtful design, flexibility of space and rich history, it’s ideal for several families or groups of friends to enjoy together.

Rooms description


There are six double bedrooms, two each on the second, third and fourth floors of the tower, each floor accessed by a lift and stairs. All of them retain original architectural features and have gentle plaster walls, a mix of antique and modern furniture and deeply comfortable mattresses. One of the bedrooms can accommodate an extra bed.


Each bedroom has a separate bathroom, individually decorated with stone floors and plastered walls, all with high performance fixtures and fittings. There is a Jacuzzi on the fourth floor and an additional bathroom on the ground floor.


The property has three high-spec kitchens, located on the ground, third and fourth floors, that are all expertly equipped and differ slightly in design. Five-burner gas hobs are built into sleek stainless steel, a bright orange gloss cupboard run and a shiny grey island, while all the necessary fixtures and gadgets are available to help you enjoy cooking, using the abundance of local produce. Alternatively, you can ask for a chef to cook you fresh, regional food as per your party’s request.

Living rooms

There are five spacious living rooms, enabling guests to relax in privacy or congregate together. Each is different but all retain original features, including sandstone fireplaces, stone walls, and wooden beams and include a clever mix of antiques and modern accessories. Air conditioning and central heating make the property suitable for all seasons.

La Torre is surrounded by mature trees and a beautifully maintained garden that hugs the contours and showcases old rose varieties. An outside dining terrace and a sleek pool (3X15m) sit amongst olive and cypress trees, with peaceful pockets round each corner of this large plot. For the best sunset view, guests can head to the rooftop terrace.


The owners live in a separate building in the grounds of La Torre but guests’ privacy is guaranteed. Morning housekeeping not available in Italian Holidays.

Leisure & Activities


There are walks and bike rides in the surrounding area, with bikes available at the property. For keen golfers, there is an 18-hole course at Golf Club Perugia in Ellera Umbra (50km). Lake Trasimeno with its beach and water-sport facilities is just over an hour’s drive away.


Special Umbria is happy to tailor-make itineraries for our guests, including guided tours of national parks, wine tours or city culture tours. We can book a private chef for your stay or organise cooking lessons for you at the tower. Nannies, drivers, massage therapists and yoga instructors are also available, on request. The nearest bakery and chemist are a ten-minute walk uphill from La Torre, or, for a supermarket and a bigger variety of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés, Todi is 10km away.


Air The nearest airports are: Perugia [PEG] (40km) with direct flights from Rotterdam [Transavia], Brussels [Ryanair] and London [BA and Ryanair]; Rome Ciampino [CIA] (145km); Rome Fiumicino [FCO] (163km); and Florence [FLR] (208km). Train The train stations at Perugia (45km) or Terni/Orte are easy for direct journeys to Rome or Florence. There is car rental available at both stations. Road The property is well served by a good road network and is within easy reach of the E45 and the Sulga bus from Ponte Rio.


La Torre is close to several towns and cities in Umbria and Tuscany, including: Todi (10km); Montefalco/Bevagna, known for its wine (12km); Deruta (24km); Foligno (28km); Perugia (45km); Assisi (47km); Spoleto (47km); Siena (145km); Rome (150km); and Florence (200km).

Your villa and Covid-19

To prevent any possible spread of Covid-19 and to enable you to enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday, all our villas are cleaned to the highest standard possible, and according to the latest Italian health and safety regulations.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.

The owner of this house has complied with the following standards:

  • To ensure the necessary information concerning social distancing and the use of masks is available to all guests
  • To guarantee availability of and accessibility to hand hygiene systems with hydro-alcoholic solutions and soaps in all inside areas of, and pertaining to, the villa
  • To guarantee cleaning and disinfection of all areas according to national authority guidelines. Further information is available on request
  • For the swimming pool: to guarantee the efficacy of the water treatments, while respecting legal limits (the parameter for free active chlorine in the pool is between 1.0 – 1.5 mg/l; combined chlorine ≤ 0.40 mg/l; pH 6.5 – 7.5 or equivalent oxygen)
  • For air conditioning systems: to guarantee the air re-circulation function is switched off and, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, with the plant in off-mode, to clean the air filters of the heating/cooling plants that use heat pumps, fan coils and convectors, at the end of each stay
