Le More

Tucked seamlessly among the Umbrian hills, Le More is a calm and joyful celebration of exquisite natural materials and exemplary style

Le More was completed in September 2021, following a build that was conceived, project-managed and interior designed by Special Umbria. It is a property of perfect poise with its soft-coloured stone, tiled roof and elegant chimney. It sits in an ancient landscape of breathtaking beauty where the views from the house are matched by the design and artistry within.

The property is divided into a main house with three large en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, and a guest house with a separate entrance that has another two spacious en-suites. Built from warm, local stone in vernacular style, Le More’s interior takes design inspiration from Scandinavia, Italy, and the Sixties, expertly blending them to create a clean, subtle, cohesive whole.

Natural materials, including oak, marble and linen, provide a backdrop for specially commissioned artwork and furniture. Curves complement angles and functional details are not forgotten: the expertly equipped kitchen is supported by a further side kitchen, there is floor cooling throughout, there are Sonos systems in every bedroom and the lighting is meticulously designed.

Le More is surrounded by roughly a hectare of garden and woodland. A veranda at the front of the house has a large dining table and there are further low seating areas, including a beautiful space between the buildings with views through the oak trees to the valley beyond. The pool (12mx6m) sits on a terrace below the house with a bank of pretty planting separating the two.

Located close to Piegaro and Perugia, guests can discover the delights of Italy’s green heartland beyond Le More’s gates, and then retreat to the comfortable and considered design of this delightful property.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

There are three large en-suites on the first floor of the main house and two more in the guest house, which has a separate entrance. Similarly decorated in soft, earthy tones that reflect the rural surroundings, there are linen curtains and external shutters, exceptionally comfy beds with upholstered headboards and bedside lights by DCW Editions. All the bedrooms have Sonos sound systems and the ones in the main house have oak floors while the ones in the guest house are smooth resin. In the main bedroom, the stunning ceiling light is by 101CPH, and there is a small library wall and a handsome as well as handy writing desk.

Bathrooms

Each of the bedrooms has an en-suite shower room that combines high-performance fixtures and fittings from Bongio and GSE, with stunning geometric tiles from Trapani in Sicily that were specially made for the house. Some of the sinks are made from concrete and the oval mirrors in the green bathroom are from Cielo.
There is a guest toilet on the ground floor and one under the pool, too.

Kitchen

The amazing kitchens at Le More will inspire cooks and aesthetes alike. The main kitchen is part of the broken-plan ground floor, extending beyond the dining area and featuring a 4.5 metre-long oak island with a white marble top. Midway along one wall, sliding doors reveal a further, large, side kitchen with beautiful oak cabinetry and a big butcher’s block-style island. Expertly equipped with a big, freestanding Smeg double oven, all of the essentials are in duplicate, including: fridges, freezers, dishwashers and sinks. The top-level appliances include a KitchenAid mixer, ice cube maker, ice cream maker and a pasta machine, and there are cookbooks galore to pore over. Special Umbria is able to arrange a private chef on request.

Living rooms

The ground floor of the main house is spacious and calm. The big sitting room, dining area and kitchen are separate but flow into each other through vast openings, anchored by a beautiful, smooth resin floor throughout. The dining area has a 3.5 metre-long wood table and curved back chairs from AndTradition, lit by a pair of Japanese-style pendants from Forestier. In the sitting room, a cool nod to the Sixties is achieved through beautiful dark wood baton boiserie, a specially commissioned curved sofa, and a pair of Sixties Swedish designer armchairs. The vast TV and corner fireplace create a cosy place to relax.

Other rooms

On the ground floor there is a separate laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a separate guest toilet. The hallway is home to a huge painting by Italian artist Giuliano Cardello. The colours used in the artwork form much of the house’s interior palette. There is also an impressive round table from Miniforms and a collection of handmade crochet lamps by Hamimi in Morocco that form a functional art piece in the stairwell. Each piece in the house has been carefully chosen to enhance the experience of staying here.

Outside

The property sits in a hectare of fenced garden and woodland. Mature oak trees provide natural shade and the planting scheme was designed to provide colour and fragrance as an opener to the incredible views that stretch over the valley towards Lake Trasimeno. The beautiful veranda at the front of the house has a large wooden dining table with Hay Palisade chairs, lit by concrete pendant lights by Karman. The green flexes give the impression of the lights floating, a perfect example of the sort of design details that help make this property so special. There is a gas BBQ here, too, and an outside sink next to the kitchen. Le More has different garden ‘rooms’, which are cleverly lit at night, where guests can sit and relax. Beautiful curved stone steps lead down to the heated pool (12mx6m) that sits below the house. It’s surrounded by sunbeds from Emu with parasols for shade and a squishy corner sofa under a pergola at one end. There is a toilet next to the pool. There is an electric gate at the entrance to Le More, plenty of space to park cars, and an electric vehicle charging point.

Notes

Le More enjoys a private, tranquil setting, without being remote. In the Villa you will find the soap, shampoo and shower gel exclusively produced in Umbria and composed by bio agriculture and essential oils.

There are long walks directly from the property and the area is excellent for mountain biking. Beach and water-sport facilities are a short drive away at Lake Trasimeno (25km). For keen golfers there is a choice of a 9-hole course at the Lamborghini Golf Course in nearby Panicarola (16km) or 18 holes at Golf Club Perugia (28km) Antognolla Golf club an 18-hole course, one of the best of Italy (48km). Tennis is available 2km from the villa at Piegaro and horseriding 8km away at Montegabbione.

Piegaro is a sleepy Medieval town with a small collection of restaurants and shops – a butcher, baker and green grocer, a couple of bars, a pharmacy and a church. Tavernelle de Panicale (9km) on the way to Perugia is a little larger with a greater choice, or you could head to Città della Pieve.

Travel

Air The nearest airports are: Perugia [PEG] (45km) with direct flights from Rotterdam [Transavia], Brussels [Ryanair] and London [BA and Ryanair]; Rome Fiumicino [FCO] (190km); Rome Ciampino [CIA] (175km); Florence [FLR] (165km). Train The train station at Chiusi [22km] is ideal for direct journeys to Rome and Florence. There is car rental available at the station. Road The A1 motorway exits closest to the property are at Fabro (20km) for Rome and at Chiusi (25km) for Florence.
