Casa Elle

A bold and sophisticated villa for six with a large pool and space to relax

Casa Elle is tucked amongst the olive groves of this particularly pretty part of Puglia, midway between Ostuni and the foodie destination of Ceglie Messapica.

Approached along a country lane with traditional stone walls on either side, the crisp clean lines of this modernist villa sit surprisingly comfortably in the ancient landscape and offer up a private oasis.

Smooth concrete floors flow from the open-plan living space and the three double bedrooms that surround it, out onto the large terrace. The glorious pool is surrounded by double sun beds – all cushion and softness, and covered dining and sitting areas make the most of the climate and the setting. At sunset, you can head up to the roof terrace for the best views.

An escapist’s dream, guests are encouraged to relax and enjoy the calmness of this delightful space. It is also on the doorstep of so many of Puglia’s best bits, from foodie towns to wild beaches, all of which can be easily accessed.

Bedrooms

There are three double bedrooms, all with a minimalist aesthetic softened by beautiful linens and doors to the outside. The principal bedroom has a desk behind the headboard wall and is ensuite, while the other two bedrooms share a Jack and Jill bathroom.

Bathrooms

There are two bathrooms, one is ensuite to the principal bedroom and the other is between the other two bedrooms. Both have showers.

Kitchen

The kitchen is simple yet well-equipped – a run of pale grey units along a wall of the main living space that perfectly combines form with function. Guests can eat at a round wood and marble dining table inside, or outside on the terrace where there is also a BBQ.

Living rooms

The living space occupies the central room of the villa and is open-plan with the kitchen and dining room. Large grey sofas provide comfy seating and doors lead out to further living space on the veranda.

Outside

The house is reached down a lane through the olive groves. The rich green of the trees and the red of the soil are showcased perfectly by the smooth whiteness of the villa, while pale wood vertical batons on the pool side of the house offer shade as well as a connection between the landscape and the architecture. The pool is close to the house – perfect for barefoot gliding from villa to sunbed to pool. With internal steps that stretch the width of the pool, guests can lounge in the shallows and swim lengths, too. There’s an outdoor shower, a BBQ, and a dining table and sofa on the veranda.

Activities

The Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve and the breathtaking beaches of the Adriatic are a half-hour-drive from the villa. The owners’ favourite spots include Sabbiadoro, with its luxury king-size sun loungers, and the Guna Beach Club that serves local dishes. There’s also Murmur Beach on the Ionian coast. The property is also close to lots of interesting towns and villages with a wide choice of restaurants, bars, shops, antiques markets and stunning Baroque architecture, including the foodie destination of Ceglie Messapica. There are vineyards, such as Terre di San Vito, and olive groves where tastings and tours are possible and, for a round of golf, the nearest course is San Domenico, at Savelletri di Fasano (27km).

Casa Elle is just 15 minutes by car from Ostuni, one of the most well-known of the magical white towns of the Itria Valley. Discover its restaurants, maze of small streets and market stalls, likewise Martina Franca, Ceglie Messapica and Cisternino, or head to the trulli villages of Alberobello and Locorotondo. The property is just half an hour from the crystal-clear water and rocky coves of the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve on the Adriatic coast. To the north is Polignano a Mare (45km), a town built on limestone cliffs where its famous viewpoint, the Balconata sul Mare, offers incredible sea views and is home to occasional high-octane cliff-diving competitions. Discover coastal Monopoli (39km) with its Baroque castle and cathedral, or head down the coast to Lecce (89km), otherwise known as the Florence of the south, which is cited as one of the most beautiful cities in the south of Italy and heralded for its Baroque splendour.

Perfect hygiene: to ensure an exceptional level of hygiene in all our villas, we’ve worked with our owners to create a Covid-19 villa management protocol. Based on recommendations from the World Health Organisation, and in compliance with current Italian national law, this protocol goes above and beyond our usual rigorous cleaning standards.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool. You are welcome to ask for a detailed list of the entire cleaning procedure we do after each departure and before welcoming new guests to the property.
