Mazzaforno Grande

Combining two properties, Mazzoforno Grande is the perfect seaside Sicilian destination for a large group who likes to holiday together, while retaining their own space

Mazzoforno Grande is a remarkable property that comprises a principal seafront villa with a garden cottage, perched above a private beach just outside Cefalù, a delightful little harbour town on Sicily’s north coast, just under an hour from Palermo.

The main house sleeps eight in four double bedrooms. An immaculately restored Sixties design villa, it has a vast terrace on the ground floor and a wraparound terrace above, with interiors that sing with geometric patterns, mid-century furniture, Sicilian tiles and a fabulous combination of space and light. It is movie-set perfect, both inside and out, with views of and direct access to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The terrace is the real draw and there is a large jacuzzi as well as the sparkling warm sea just steps away.

The accompanying garden cottage is everything you would hope for in a typical Sicilian coastal cottage. The interiors are a perfect match for the location with local tiles, sea-green paintwork, fresh white walls, modern fixtures and fittings and vintage furniture. The lawned garden has a small pool (3m x 8m) although guests can still reach the nearest beach in just five minutes.

While both properties can be rented independently as Villa Mazzoforno and Le Cementine, together as Mazzoforno Grande they offer the best of this incredible spot. Just ten minutes by car from Cefalù and with the whole of Sicily’s northern coastline on the doorstep, this is a seaside holiday at its glamourous best.

Rooms description

Bedrooms

In the larger property there are four double bedrooms upstairs, all of which have doors out to the wraparound covered terrace, and views of the sea. Geometric patterns, a Sixties-inspired colour palette of sea greens, blues and taupe, billowing linen curtains and fabulous Sicilian tiles add colour and texture to the spacious rooms, as do the big, comfy beds and linen sheets.
In the smaller property there are two doubles: one upstairs that has a sitting room attached that could also be used as a single bedroom, and one downstairs.
While there is still a hint of Sixties design, there is more of a cottagey feel found in the vintage furniture and Sicilian tiles.

Bathrooms

There are seven bathrooms spread across both properties. In the larger property there are four upstairs, each attached to a bedroom, and a guest one downstairs. Sixties coastal cool is picked up in the geometric designs that include portholes and the same colour scheme as the bedrooms. There are showers in them all and one comes with a bath, too. There’s another shower outside. In the cottage, the shower rooms are simple yet beautifully designed with modern fixtures and fittings as well as traditional Sicilian tiles that lend a retro feel. One is en-suite upstairs and the other is downstairs.

Kitchen

The villa has a neat kitchen with a long rectangular pivot window with sea views. Superbly equipped, it opens onto the dining area although with such impressive sea views, the lure to dine outside on the terrace is strong. In the cottage the kitchen includes a little wooden dining table and doors to the terrace outside.

Living rooms

The villa’s large living room has doors to the terrace on two sides and fabulous seafront views. Large hexagonal floor tiles match the Sixties-inspired furniture which offers plenty of places to sit and relax. Likewise, there are lots of places to sit or lie down out on the terrace where the only thing stopping you from giving in to the temptation to doze is the rapturous view. Next door in the cottage a small, white-washed sitting room next to the kitchen is matched by a comfy outdoor lounge area. There is a further sitting room upstairs next to the main bedroom, perfect for use as a single bedroom for a child, too.

Other rooms

In the main villa there is a laundry room on the ground floor. In the cottage, an upstairs sitting room could also be used as a single bedroom for a child, or as a dressing room.

There is private parking and the wraparound upstairs terrace can be accessed from every bedroom. At the cottage, the garden is just the right size and includes a 3m x 8m pool surrounded by lawn and a cosy and comfortable shaded seating area next to the house.
