Villa Corchi
Clad in cork and built to a minimalist design from raw and natural materials, Villa Corchi is a modernist pleasure palace with a 20m-long bio pool and fabulous views.
Villa Corchi was finished at the end of 2019 and is a daring architectural project that adheres to the idea that less is more. The position and layout of the property, with its balance of curves and straight lines, vast windows and terraces, is expressly designed to maintain a continuous relationship with the shimmering sea.
Built on three different levels, the minimalist design leads you from room to room and floor to floor, merging a core blend of materials, including wood, cement, stone and metal. Taking inspiration from nature, the house is covered in cork and was conceived as an oasis of high design based on sustainable principles with a view to being a house in which to relax and reset.
Every little detail has been carefully considered and much of the work was carried out by local artisans. From the Bulthaup kitchen to the Thonet furniture, the chosen pieces are sculptural and dramatic.
This is a property where the outside spaces are as much a part of the design as the inside ones and guests will find numerous shaded places to eat, drink and relax. The 20m-long pool has no chemicals and uses water from the naturally filtered lake. A swim here can be accompanied by a snooze on a lounger in the shade of the carob trees.
The south coast of the island is on the doorstep and the rich history and culture of towns such as Modica, Ragusa, Syracusa and Noto are easy to reach. Byzantine, Moorish and Baroque architecture provides the perfect foil to the modernity of this fabulous villa.
