For those who have ever dreamed of getting married in Italy, or who want somewhere for a big celebration, this is the place!

I Borghi dell’Eremo is a 500-hectare estate that sits in an ancient landscape of breathtaking beauty on the border of Umbria and Tuscany, in Italy’s green heartland.

Three separate little hamlets, or ‘borghi’, have been carefully restored and added to, with lush gardens and careful landscaping, resulting in a cohesive estate that offers guests the perfect venue for a wedding, a birthday celebration or just a large group gathering.

The original ‘borgo’, San Giovanni, is the jewel in the estate’s crown. Here, there are the guest suites, the Essenza Restaurant and a fabulous outdoor pool. The original church still stands, too. Guests can hold smaller events here in San Giovanni, for up to 36 guests, where they can rent out the borgo in its entirety.

Alternatively, in the heart of the estate is La Crocicchia, a sensational setting for a larger wedding. There are both indoor and outdoor dining options with the ravishing Val di Chiana as the backdrop.

The third ‘borgo’, Corvignano, is a soon-to-be-finished cluster of farmhouses and buildings that are being sensitively renovated into further guest accommodation.

The staff at I Borghi dell’Eremo have extensive experience in hosting incredible weddings and events. This is not a cookie-cutter kind of place but somewhere that celebrates the beauty of Umbria through its food and wine, its setting and its fabulous hospitality, as well as the individuality of its guests. Our four Deluxe Garden rooms have in common that they are all located on the ground floor. Each opening and each window reveal a spectacle made up of exciting colors and scents of the outdoor spaces. Presidential Suite Eremo (click for pictures)

The Presidential Suite Eremo is the icon of The Villages of the Hermitage. Located on the first floor of an ancient abbey of the twelfth century, you can access the open space thanks to a charming loggiaHere, the living room is located under the sumptuous Romanesque vault belonging to the remains of the abbey and is separated from the bedroom only by the refined electric fireplace. The view sweeps 180 ° over the entire estate.

The unique element of this Suite is the private Spa: an environment entirely dedicated to wellness, with Turkish bath, nebulized shower, Scottish shower, chrome and aroma therapy in a single environment. From the Whirpool bath you can admire the cinema wall and the second electric fireplace. A second electric fireplace makes the stay in the comfortable loungers intimate. The large private garden includes a panoramic gazebo. Reserved parking.

Bedrooms

Guests are accommodated in San Giovanni, the borgo at the southern end of the estate, where rooms are spread across different buildings, including the former farmhouse and the original L’Eremo, or retreat.
There are 15 rooms altogether: four superior ones and four deluxe ones, three suites and three junior suites, and a presidential suite with its own mini spa.
The rooms have been sympathetically restored, respecting the original architecture with cotto floors, wooden ceiling beams and the can’t-quite-be-real-but-they-are views out over the Umbrian landscape.
Differing in size and characteristics according to room type, they all have indulgently big and comfy beds - some sophisticated four posters, others with impressive wooden headboards or button-upholstered ones. Decorated in soft, elegant tones, the rooms have Smart TVs, heating and air conditioning, living areas and many have fireplaces, too. The larger suites are more like apartments with their own small kitchens and living areas and, in the case of the Junior Suites, a second twin bedroom. A couple of the suites can be combined to make one large apartment.
With capacity for 36 guests, it is a perfect place to gather friends and family.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms combine form with function: high-performance showers are surrounded by handcrafted tiles or beautiful stone such as Nuovo Portoro black marble, while basins sit on marble-topped, wooden vanity units. Size and style vary according to the class of room - the Suites have freestanding tubs or whirlpool baths while the Presidential Suite has its own private spa with a cinema wall.

Kitchen

Many of the rooms have their own small kitchen, that include an induction hob, a sink, a fridge and a coffee machine.

Living rooms

The bedrooms have their own living areas – in some cases a separate room with a beautiful round dining table with velvet dining chairs or a large sofa in front of the fireplace. Whatever the grade of room, guests have somewhere to sit and relax in comfort and privacy.

Other rooms

The Restaurant The restaurant, Essenza, is located in San Giovanni. Guests can dine inside or out, depending on the season. It’s a spectacular location. The daytime sun-drenched view of hilltop towns and the Val di Chiana in the distance transforms, come evening, into an architectural silhouette on the horizon as the sun sets on the terrace. Using local produce, much of it grown on the estate, the seasonal menu delivers fabulous regional dishes steeped as much in flavour as they are in the cooking traditions of this foodie Italian heartland. The drama is found in the setting as well as the food and for events, parties can dine al fresco in the beautiful gardens where staff are experienced in bringing themes and ideas to life.

Set in the rolling Umbrian hills, I Borghi dell’Eremo showcases this green Italian heartland to perfection. Guests can wander through and between the three hamlets, where the terraced lawns and beautiful flower beds are all perfectly landscaped so guests can soak in the magnetic view and feel a part of it. There is a pool and a tennis court. For a big celebration or gathering, an outdoor set-up makes the most of the grandeur and immense beauty.

Borghi dell’Eremo is a place of stunning beauty where guests are encouraged to switch off and relax. If, for you, that means hiking or biking, there are beautiful routes through the estate or further afield through the surrounding landscape. Guests have use of the pool and tennis court, too. Beach and water-sport facilities are a short drive away at Lake Trasimeno (25km). For keen golfers there is a choice of a 9-hole course at the Lamborghini Golf Course in nearby Panicarola (16km) or 18 holes at Golf Club Perugia (28km) and there are stables 8km away at Montegabbione for those who wish to ride.

Happenings

The world-famous, annual Umbria Jazz Festival takes place in the first two weeks of July. Previous artists include Diana Krall, John Legend and Lady Gaga. Piegaro is a small Medieval town with a small collection of restaurants, bars and shops, a pharmacy and a church. Tavernelle de Panicale (9km) on the way to Perugia is a little larger, as are nearby Città della Pieve (13km) or Paciano (18km).

Travel

Air The nearest airports are: Perugia [PEG] (45km) with direct flights from Rotterdam [Transavia], Brussels [Ryanair] and London [BA and Ryanair]; Florence [FLR] (160km); Rome Ciampino [CIA] (168km); and Rome Fiumicino [FCO] (181km). Train The train station at Chiusi [19km] is ideal for direct journeys to Rome and Florence. There is car rental available at the station. Road The A1 motorway exits closest to the property are at Fabro (15km) for Rome and at Chiusi (19km) for Florence.

Prior to arrival, your villa will have been fully sanitised, including all surfaces, objects, kitchen items, curtains, sofas, throws, pillows, toys, and in and around the pool.
